The Financial Times received three awards at this year’s Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards for Editorial Excellence in Hong Kong.
South-east Asia correspondent John Reed and environment and clean energy correspondent Leslie Hook won the award for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment for their coverage of China’s new environment policy.
Commenting on the winning coverage, a SOPA judge said, “Gripping, analytical, investigative reporting on a little understood and complex issue that has profound implications on the environment and the way society deals with its mounting trash.”
Tokyo correspondents Leo Lewis and Kana Inagaki, and Peter Campbell, motor industry correspondent, received the Honourable Mention for Excellence in Business Reporting for their coverage of the downfall of Carlos Ghosn.
Beijing correspondent Yuan Yang’s piece on Shakespeare in China won the Honourable Mention for Excellence in Arts & Culture Reporting.
The Nikkei Asian Review won four awards, including Excellence in Explanatory Reporting, Excellence in Business Reporting and the Scoop Award, and an Honourable Mention in Excellence in Magazine Design.
Established in 1999, the SOPA award covers a broad range of categories reflecting Asia’s diverse geo-political environment and vibrant editorial scene.
